Stars on parade

While the best of the NHL gather this weekend, NFL stars of the present and future close out their gridiron seasons.
Tampa hosts the NHL All-Star game, with coverage Sunday at 3:30 p.m. on NBC. The recent format remains in place, with stars from the four divisions battling in semifinal matchups. The winners of the semifinals compete in the final period.
NBC Sports network has the NHL skills competition Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
The best NFL players – minus those on the two Super Bowl teams – match up Sunday in the Pro Bowl at 3 p.m. on ESPN and ABC. This year’s format matches AFC against NFC, with the game in Orlando for the second straight year.
The NFL network has the Senior Bowl from Mobile Saturday at 2:30 p.m. NFL scouts and coaches looking to supplement rosters and boost their 2018 postseason chances gather for the final on-field action before the runup to the NFL draft.
The Australian Open closes its run with the men’s final Sunday at 3:30 a.m. on ESPN. The women’s championship will be Saturday at 3:30 a.m., with a men’s semifinal Friday at 3:30 a.m.
The Wizards visit the Thunder Thursday at 8 p.m. on TNT, with Timberwolves-Warriors in the nightcap.
ESPN offers the Rockets against the Pelicans Friday at 8 p.m., and the Sixers’ trip to Oklahoma City Sunday at 6 p.m.
It’s Wizards-Hawks Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington.
The Celtics visit the Warriors Saturday at 8:30 p.m. on ABC.
On the college court, Michigan meets Purdue Thursday at 7 p.m. on ESPN. Wichita State hosts Central Florida on ESPN2 Thursday at 9 p.m., then BYU tangles with St. Mary’s at 11 p.m.
FoxSports1 offers Colorado-Arizona Thursday at 8:30 p.m. followed by California’s clash with UCLA.
Wisconsin tangles with Michigan State Friday at 8 p.m. on FoxSports1.
North Carolina meets North Carolina State Saturday at noon on CBS, then Virginia faces Duke at 2 p.m.
Fox brings Arizona-UCLA Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
There’s four contests between the SEC and Big 12 Saturday on ESPN, starting at noon with Baylor-Florida. Alabama takes on Oklahoma at 2:15 p.m., followed by Texas A&M against Kansas at 4:30 p.m. West Virginia tangles with Kentucky at 7 p.m.

ESPN2’s day starts at noon with Texas Tech-South Carolina. Clashes between the SEC and Big 12 continue at 2 p.m. with Mississippi against Texas followed by TCU taking on Vanderbilt and Oklahoma State’s contest with Arkansas. Virginia Tech tangles with Notre Dame at 8 p.m., and it’s Valparaiso against Illinois State at 10 p.m.

The ACC network has Syracuse-Pittsburgh and Miami’s contest with Florida State Saturday at 4 p.m., and Wake Forest battles Louisville at 8 p.m.
It’s St. John’s-Butler on FoxSports1 Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Duquesne duels with Rhode Island Saturday at noon on NBC Sports network, followed by Massachusetts-Fordham.
Bowie State battles Virginia State Saturday at 4 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington.

NBC Sports Washington has a pair of ACC contests Sunday, with Wake Forest-Louisville at 1 p.m. followed by North Carolina State against Clemson.
The Capitals visit the Panthers Thursday at 7:30 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington.
NBC Sports network has the Blackhawks’ clash with the Red Wings Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
The PGA tour visits Torrey Pines on CBS Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
It’s X Games weekend, starting on ESPN Thursday at 10 p.m. Action continues Friday and Saturday at 10:30 p.m., closing with final events Sunday at 8:30 p.m.
In the FA Cup, Manchester United takes on Yeovil Town Friday at 2:30 p.m. on FoxSports1. Leicester City faces Peterborough Saturday at 7:20 a.m. and Tottenham takes on Newport City at 12:30 p.m.
Liverpool battles West Brom Sunday at 6 a.m. on FoxSports1 and Chelsea clashes with Newcastle at 8:30 a.m.
In the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich battles Hoffenheim Saturday at 9:25 a.m. on FoxSports1.
Fox carries the start of the 24 hours of Daytona Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Armory Invitational track and field meet is on NBC Sports network Saturday at 5 p.m.
NBC Sports network has women’s World Cup skiing Saturday and Sunday at 6 a.m.
There’s Big Bash League cricket between Brisbane and Melbourne Saturday at 3 a.m. on NBC Sports network.

Who’s going to Super Bowl LII?

Tom Brady has five Super Bowl rings.
The other three teams playing have none – combined.
The two teams competing for a ring at Super Bowl LII will be determined Sunday.
Brady and the Patriots will take on the Jacksonsville Jaguars at 3 p.m. on CBS in the AFC championship contest.
The Jaguars are making their second trip to the AFC title game in their 23 seasons. The Patriots have reached the conference final for the seventh straight year, after winning two of the last three contests.
Fox has the Vikings meeting the Eagles at 6:30 p.m. Minnesota hopes to return home to play in the big game in two weeks – something no Super Bowl host has done.
The Vikings lost four Super Bowls during the 70s, and Philadelphia has lost its two Super Bowl trips – the last against the Patriots in 2005.
For players trying to reach the NFL, FoxSports1 has the Collegiate Bowl Saturday at 4 p.m
The Sixers take on the Celtics Thursday at 8 p.m. on TNT, with Timberwolves-Rockets in the nightcap.

The NFL postseason reaches the conference semifinals this weekend, starting Saturday at 4:30 p.m. when the top-seeded Eagles host the Falcons on NBC.
Atlanta, the only member of last year’s playoff field to make a return trip, ousted the Rams Saturday night.
CBS has the Saturday primetime matchup as the Patriots take on the Titans at 8:15 p.m. The Titans won a playoff game for the first time since 2003 on Saturday – a year they lost to the Patriots in this round’s primetime game.
The Steelers look to avenge a Week 5 loss when the Jaguars come to town Sunday at 1 p.m. on CBS.
Super Bowl host Minnesota battles the Saints on Fox at 4:30 p.m. in a rematch of the Monday Night Football opener. The Vikings posted a victory over the Saints that night, and stand two wins from being the first team to ever play in the Super Bowl at their home stadium.

Frisco kids ride again

When we entered 2017, James Madison lofted the trophy in the Bowl Championship Series.
After a year without a loss, the Dukes return to Frisco seeking a repeat title.
James Madison faces North Dakota State Saturday at noon on ESPN2 in a rematch of last year’s semifinal. The Dukes upset the Bison at their stadium before ousting Youngstown State in the championship.
The Bison won five straight titles from 2011-2015 before James Madison claimed the 2016 crown.
The Bowl Championship Series crowns its champion Monday, as Georgia faces Alabama on ESPN at 8:30 p.m. The SEC foes knocked off top-seeded Clemson and second-seeded Oklahoma to ensure their league another title.
The NFL postseason gets underway Saturday at 4:30 p.m. when the Titans tangle with the Chiefs on ESPN.
The Falcons – last year’s NFC champion – take on the upstart Los Angeles Rams Saturday at 8:15 p.m. on NBC.
The Bills make their first playoff appearance of the 21st century on Sunday, meeting the Jaguars at 1 p.m. on CBS.
