Getting baseball going

For the first time, all 30 major league teams were scheduled to begin play Thursday.
The weather won’t permit, of course.
A week after Baltimore and the East Coast got hit by a big snowstorm, the Orioles host the Twins at 3 p.m. on MASN.
The Nationals’ contest in Cincinnati has been postponed until Friday at 4 p.m. on MASN.
ESPN has four games on Opening Day, starting at 12:30 p.m. when the Cubs meet the Marlins. The World Champion Astros tangle with the Rangers at 3:30 p.m., followed by Giants-Dodgers at 7 p.m. It’s Indians against Mariners in the nightcap at 10 p.m.
The Orioles series with the Twins continues Saturday at 7 p.m. on MASN2 and Sunday at 1 p.m. on MASN.
The Nationals meet the Reds Saturday at 2 p.m. on MASN and Sunday at 4 p.m. on MASN2.
FoxSports1 brings a pair of contests Saturday, with Astros-Rangers at 4 p.m. followed by the Brewers facing the Padres at 8:30 p.m.
ESPN offers Cardinals-Mets at 1 p.m. Sunday and the Giants and Dodgers at 8:30 p.m.
Sister Jean and the Illinois-Chicago crew went from 11 seed to the Final Four, and will play Michigan Saturday at 6 p.m. on TBS. TNT and TruTV adds coverage for each team for their fans.
It’s top seeds Kansas and Villanova meeting in the second semifinal Saturday at 8:30 p.m. The national champion will be crowned Monday at 9 p.m. on TBS.
The women’s Final Four starts Friday at 7 p.m. with Louisville against Mississippi State on ESPN2. Notre Dame faces Connecticut in the second semifinal at 9:30 p.m.
The winners battle Sunday at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
ESPN2 has the NIT championship between Penn State and Utah Thursday at 7 p.m.
The High School Nationals semifinals are Friday on ESPN2 at 3 and 5 p.m. The championship is Saturday at noon on ESPN, with the women’s championship Saturday at 10 a.m.
The Thunder visit the Spurs on TNT Thursday at 8 p.m., with Bucks-Warriors in the nightcap.
The Wizards take on the Pistons Thursday at 7 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington. The Hornets come to town Saturday at 3 p.m. and there’s a contest with the Bulls Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
The Pelicans meet the Cavaliers Friday at 8 p.m. on ESPN, followed by Clippers-Trail Blazers.
The Spurs battles the Rockets Sunday at 3:30 p.m. on ABC.

Gearing up for the Kentucky Derby, NBC Sports network has the Florida Derby Saturday at 6 p.m. The Dubai World Cup is Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
ESPN2 has the Miami Open Thursday at 1 p.m. with women’s semifinals and men’s semifinals Friday at 1 p.m. The women’s final is Saturday at 1 p.m. with the men’s title match Sunday at 1 p.m.
The United States takes on Japan in the World Curling Championship Saturday at 9:30 p.m. on NBC Sports network.

Loyola of Chicago, one of two 11 seeds still alive, face seven-seed Nevada as the Sweet 16 gets going Thursday at 7 p.m. on CBS.
The other 11 seed, Syracuse, won in the First Four before posting a pair of upset wins last weekend. The Orangemen face Duke Friday at 9:30 p.m. on CBS.
There’s two games on CBS and two on TBS Thursday and Friday. CBS has Kentucky against Kansas State Thursday at 9:30 p.m. TBS covers the West Regional, with Michigan against Texas A&M at 7:30 p.m. and Florida State facing Gonzaga at 9:50 p.m.
Friday’s action begins in Omaha with top-seed Kansas taking on Clemson at 7 p.m. on CBS. TBS will be in Boston for the East Regional, with Villanova clashing with West Virginia at 7:30 p.m. and Texas Tech taking on Purdue at 9:50 p.m.
Saturday’s Regional finals will be on TBS at 6 and 8:30 p.m., with CBS picking up coverage Sunday at 2:20 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Then it’s off to San Antonio for the Final Four.
The women’s tournament continues with regional semifinals Friday at 7 p.m, with North Carolina State against Mississippi State on ESPN and Oregon State-Baylor on ESPN2. Stanford battles Louisville on ESPN and UCLA takes on Texas on ESPN2 at 9:30 p.m.

Canada meets the United States in the Women’s World Curling Championship Friday at 7 p.m. on NBC Sports network. There’s a semifinal Saturday at 2 p.m. and the gold medal contest is Sunday at 3 p.m.
In rugby, it’s Saracens against Harlequins on NBC Sports network Saturday at 10 a.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. the Leicester Wasps meet the Tigers.
NBC Sports Washington has the Women’s Slalom at the U.S. Alpine Championships Saturday at noon.


The Virginia Cavaliers haven’t reached the NCAA Final Four since 1984.
As the top overall seed, this year might finally be their time.
Virginia opens the first round of the tournament Friday at 9:20 p.m. against Maryland-Baltimore County on TNT.
A likely win moves the Cavaliers into the second round Sunday in Charlotte.
The 64-team first round begins Thursday at noon on CBS with Oklahoma-Rhode Island. TruTV begins its coverage at 12:30 p.m. with Wright State against Tennessee.
TNT starts its day in Boise with Gonzaga against UNC-Greensboro at 1:30 p.m., with Midwest top seed Kansas meeting Penn on TBS at 2 p.m.
Virginia Tech tangles with Alabama on TNT around 9:30 p.m. in the final game of the day in Pittsburgh.
Providence takes on Texas A&M Friday at noon on CBS, while TruTV brings Purdue-Cal State Fullerton at 12:30 p.m. Marshall meets Wichita State on TNT at 1:30 p.m., with Georgia State’s clash with Cincinnati starting the day on TBS.

Conference tournament time

The first weekend of March usually brings a few conference tournaments from leagues at the lower end of Division I.
This year, the Big Ten gets a jump on the rest of the big guys.
Scheduling issues at Madison Square Garden – where the Big Ten tournament will be held – moved them a week earlier than usual.
CBS has the semifinals Saturday at 2 and 4:30 p.m., with the final Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
The Missouri Valley Conference holds its final Sunday at 2 p.m. on CBS.
ESPN2 has the Ohio Valley Championship Saturday at 8 p.m.
The Big South holds its championship Sunday at 1 p.m. on ESPN, followed by the Atlantic Sun at 3 p.m.
As the regular season closes, ESPN has Wichita State against Central Florida at 7 p.m. and Cincinnati’s clash with Tulane at 9 p.m.
ESPN2 heads west for Oregon-Washington State at 9 p.m. and Oregon State facing Washington at 11 p.m.
Virginia takes on Louisville on the ACC network Thursday at 8 p.m., and Georgia Tech-North Carolina State also gets coverage in the time slot.
Stanford visits Arizona Thursday at 10 p.m. on FoxSports1.
