Fire up the tailgate and the remote – college football gets going this weekend.
ESPN gets it going Thursday night when Northwestern visits Purdue at 8 p.m. Oklahoma State hosts Missouri State at 8 p.m. on FoxSports1.
Fourth-ranked Wisconsin takes on Western Kentucky at 9 p.m. on ESPN with Stanford facing San Diego State on FoxSports1.
Top-ranked Alabama begins another title run on ABC Saturday at 8 p.m. against Louisville.
Notre Dame clashes with Michigan at 7:30 p.m. on NBC.
ABC opens its day at noon with Ohio State-Oregon State, then it’s Washington against Auburn at 3:30 p.m.
Oklahoma tangles with Florida Atlantic at noon on Fox, followed by North Carolina-California. Nebraska hosts Akron at 8 p.m.
West Virginia and Tennessee meet in Charlotte on CBS at 3:30 p.m.
Texas Tech takes on Mississippi at noon on ESPN and Georgia hosts Austin Peay at 3:30 p.m. UCLA clashes with Cincinnati at 7 p.m. before BYU-Arizona at 10:30 p.m.
Maryland meets Texas on FoxSports1 at noon and Arizona State hosts Texas-San Antonio at 10:30 p.m.
TCU takes on Southern on MASN2 Saturday at noon.

Preseason for NFL announcers

The third week of the NFL preseason means the starters see their most on-field action of August.
It also brings out the NFL broadcasters to warm up for September.
The third week begins Thursday at 8 p.m. with the World Champion Eagles facing Browns and top-pick Baker Mayfield on Fox.
CBS gets a pair of games, with Lions-Buccaneers Friday at 8 p.m. and the Saints visiting the Chargers Saturday at 8 p.m.
The Bengals and Bills battle on Fox Sunday at 4 p.m., with the NBC team of Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth warming up their Sunday night slot with the Cardinals taking on the Cowboys.
Local coverage of the Redskins continues on NBC Sports Washington, with the Broncos visiting Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The college football season starts Saturday with a FCS contest between Jacksonville State and North Carolina A&T at 7 p.m. on ESPN. Wyoming takes on New Mexico State at 10 p.m. on ESPN2.
The Yankees visit the Orioles for a four-game set, with games on MASN Friday before a day-night doubleheader Saturday at 1 and 7 p.m. ESPN has coverage Sunday at 8 p.m.

NASCAR has its big weekend at the small track, with Bristol hosting the series at the World’s Fastest Half-Mile.
The flag drops Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on NBC Sports network.
With six wins so far this season, Kyle Busch leads the points race with three to go until the start of playoffs. Kevin Harvick stands in second after taking the checkered flag seven times, followed by Martin Truex Jr.
The Xfinity Series goes Friday at 7:30 p.m. on NBC Sports network, after qualifying at 3:30 p.m. after the Truck Series Thursday at 8:30 p.m. on Fox.
The IndyCar series visits Pocono Sunday at 1:30 p.m. on NBC Sports network, after qualifying Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Major move

The 100th PGA Championship tees off Thursday – for the last time as the final major of the season.
Starting in 2019, the tournament will move to May as the PGA reshuffles its schedule.
Tiger Woods continues this quest for his 15th major title with coverage on CBS Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. With different winners at each of the first three majors, several golfers can claim the title of season’s best starting this weekend.
The NFL preseason gets going in full force, with all 32 teams in action. The Redskins take on the Patriots Thursday at 7:30 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington.
North of the border, ESPN2 has Edmonton against British Columbia Thursday at 10 p.m.
The Orioles close out a series with the Rays Thursday at 7 p.m. on MASN, then host the Red Sox Friday and Saturday on MASN2 and Sunday on MASN.
The Nationals visit Wrigley Field on MASN Friday and Saturday, with FoxSports1 also carrying Saturday’s game. The series concludes on ESPN Sunday night.

Ray Lewis dances into the NFL Hall of Fame this weekend.
The Ravens’ linebacker, who led the team to victory in Super Bowl XLVII in his final contest, joins six other new members of the Hall of Fame for Saturday’s induction ceremony. NFL Network and ESPN have coverage at 7 p.m.
The Hall of Fame weekend begins Thursday at 8 p.m. with the Ravens facing the Bears on NBC. It’s the first time the Ravens have played in the game, while the Bears have won their four visits.
