College football kickoff

Fire up the tailgate and the remote – college football gets going this weekend.
ESPN gets it going Thursday night when Northwestern visits Purdue at 8 p.m. Oklahoma State hosts Missouri State at 8 p.m. on FoxSports1.
Fourth-ranked Wisconsin takes on Western Kentucky at 9 p.m. on ESPN with Stanford facing San Diego State on FoxSports1.
Top-ranked Alabama begins another title run on ABC Saturday at 8 p.m. against Louisville.
Notre Dame clashes with Michigan at 7:30 p.m. on NBC.
ABC opens its day at noon with Ohio State-Oregon State, then it’s Washington against Auburn at 3:30 p.m.
Oklahoma tangles with Florida Atlantic at noon on Fox, followed by North Carolina-California. Nebraska hosts Akron at 8 p.m.
West Virginia and Tennessee meet in Charlotte on CBS at 3:30 p.m.
Texas Tech takes on Mississippi at noon on ESPN and Georgia hosts Austin Peay at 3:30 p.m. UCLA clashes with Cincinnati at 7 p.m. before BYU-Arizona at 10:30 p.m.
Maryland meets Texas on FoxSports1 at noon and Arizona State hosts Texas-San Antonio at 10:30 p.m.
TCU takes on Southern on MASN2 Saturday at noon.
NBC Sports Washington has Georgia Tech against Alcorn State Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Miami meets LSU on ABC Sunday at 7:30 p.m. while ESPN2 shows Prairie View against North Carolina Central at noon.
Virginia Tech closes the weekend with a contest against Florida State on ESPN at 8 p.m. Monday.
The NFL preseason closes with the Redskins taking on the Ravens Thursday at 7:30 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington.
The Orioles visit Kansas City in the battle of this year’s bottom two teams, starting Friday at 8 p.m. on MASN2.
The Nationals host the Brewers on MASN for the weekend.
FoxSports1 brings a pair of games Saturday, with Yankees-Tigers at 4 p.m. followed by the Rays’ contest with the Indians. The Cubs battle the Phillies on TBS Sunday at 1:35 p.m. and ESPN closes the weekend with the Angels visiting the Astros at 8 p.m.
Labor Day weekend means NASCAR visits Darlington. NBC Sports network has the Monster Series Southern 500 Sunday at 6 p.m. and the Xfinity Series Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on NBC.
Formula One hits the track Sunday at 8:55 a.m. with the Italian Grand Prix on ESPN2.
The IndyCar Grand Prix of Portland goes Sunday at 3 p.m. on NBC Sports network.
ESPN has second round play at the U.S. Open Thursday at noon, moving to ESPN2 at 6 p.m. The third round gets going on ESPN at noon Friday and 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
ESPN2 has more third round play Saturday at 11 a.m., with round of 16 Sunday at 11 a.m. on ESPN and 7 p.m. on ESPN2.
D.C. United hosts Atlanta United Sunday at 7:30 p.m. on FoxSports1
Leicester City faces Liverpool on NBC Sports network Saturday at 7:25 a.m., followed by Chelsea-AFC Bournemouth. Cardiff City clashes with Arsenal at 8:25 a.m. and it’s Burnley against Manchester United at 10:55 a.m.
Hannover 96 takes on Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga Friday at 2:30 p.m. on FoxSports1 and it’s Wolfsburg-Leverkusen Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Leipzig takes on Dusseldorf Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and Schalke clashes with Hertha at noon.
Maryland meets Stanford in college soccer on FoxSports1 Friday at 6 p.m.
There’s a women’s soccer friendly between the United States and Chile Friday at 11:20 p.m. on ESPN2.
The Mystics and Dream play Game 4 of their WNBA playoff series Sunday at 3 p.m. on ESPN2.
NBC Sports network offers the Woodward Stakes Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
