Are you ready for some football?

For football fans, the drought is over.
There will be some version on NFL football in action each weekend until February 7.
The Steelers and Vikings meet Sunday at 8 p.m. in the annual Hall of Fame game to kick off the preseason. NBC has coverage of the contest.
Sure, the starters will only play a few plays. But it’s now five weeks until the season opener in New England.
ESPN and NFL network carries the Hall of Fame enshrinement Saturday at 7 p.m.
North of the border, Edmonton takes on British Columbia Thursday at 10 p.m. on ESPN2. Montreal meets Ottawa Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The Orioles continue their West Coast swing in Anaheim, meeting the Angels on MASN2.
The Nationals host Arizona Thursday at 4 p.m. on MASN and then the Rockies come to town for the weekend on MASN.
The Pirates and Dodgers get plenty of coverage this weekend, with games Friday and Sunday on ESPN and Saturday at 4:05 p.m. on FoxSports1. The Cardinals take on the Brewers Saturday at 7 p.m. on FoxSports1 and TBS offers the Giants and Cubs Sunday at 2:20 p.m.
ESPN2 brings the final of the Intermediate Little League World Series Saturday at 9 p.m. while ESPN has the Senior League finale Saturday at noon. Little League softball crowns champions in Junior League Saturday at 2 p.m. on ESPN, Senior League Saturday at 4 p.m. and Big League Sunday at noon.
NASCAR hits the Glen this weekend, with the Sprint Cup race Sunday at 2 p.m. on NBC Sports network. The Xfinity Series goes Saturday at 3 p.m. There’s practice Friday at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
The Premier League season starts Saturday on NBC, with Chelsea clashing with Swansea City at 12:30 p.m. Arsenal meets West Ham Sunday at 8:30 a.m. on NBC Sports network, followed by Stoke City-Liverpool.
D.C. United visits Montreal Saturday at 8 p.m. on Comcast. The Galaxy battle the Sounders Sunday at 4 p.m. on ESPN while the Red Bulls face New York FC on FoxSports1 at 7 p.m.
In women’s soccer, Portland plays Chicago Sunday at 9:30 p.m. on FoxSports1.
CBS carries the Bridgestone Invitational Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
The U.S. Open Series continues on ESPN2, with the semifinals of the Bank of the West Classic at 3 and 7 p.m. The final is Sunday at 5 p.m.
NBC carries the Breeder’s Cup Challenge Series from Saratoga Saturday at 5 p.m.
Phoenix faces Chicago in the WNBA Sunday at 2 p.m. on ESPN.

Major concerns

Six years ago, Tiger Woods won his 14th major championship.
This weekend is his last chance for number 15 in 2014. If he can play.
Coming off an early exit last Sunday, Woods will try to win the PGA championship at Valhalla.
Woods is scheduled to join Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington on the course Thursday morning. TNT will have coverage Thursday and Friday starting at 1 p.m.
CBS has coverage Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. TNT begins both weekend days at 11 a.m.
The Redskins open their preseason Thursday against the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Comcast.
The Orioles close a series in Toronto Thursday at 7 p.m. on MASN before facing St. Louis for the weekend on MASN (Saturday’s game will also be on FoxSports1).
The Nationals have an afternoon contest with the Mets Thursday on MASN, then head to Atlanta for games Friday and Saturday on MASN2 and Sunday night on ESPN.
FoxSports1 has the Indians and Yankees Saturday at 1 p.m. while the Brewers take on the Dodgers Sunday at 2 p.m. on TBS.
The road to Williamsport continues on ESPN Thursday with Great Lakes semifinals at 2 and 7 p.m. There’s a Northwest semifinal at 9 p.m., after ESPN2 shows the first semifinal at 5 p.m.
Play starts at 11 a.m. Friday with a Mid-Atlantic semifinal on ESPN. The second semifinal will be at 3 p.m., with the Midwest final at 1 p.m. The Southeast crowns its champion at 7 p.m. The West regional semifinals are 5 p.m. on ESPN2 and 9 p.m. on ESPN.
Four tickets to Williamsport get punched Saturday on ESPN, starting at 2 p.m. in the Great Lakes region. It’s out to the Northwest at 4 p.m., followed by the New England regional at 7 p.m. and West final at 9 p.m. The Mid-Atlantic final will be on ESPN2 Sunday at 6 p.m.

In friendly action, Liverpool meets Borussia Dortmund Sunday at 7 a.m. on NBC Sports network.

Another 1 to watch

Do you have a need for Speed Channel? Fox Sports doesn’t anymore.
Speed will be rebranded as Fox Sports1 on Saturday, and sister channel Fuel TV will become Fox Sports2.
UFC gets primetime coverage Saturday, after some practices before the NASCAR race in Michigan. There will be new studio shows as the new network gets ready for football season.
ESPN has the NASCAR race from Michigan Sunday at noon. The Nationwide racers are in mid-Ohio Saturday at 3 p.m. on ESPN.
There’s a pair of preseason games this week on ESPN, as the Chargers meet the Bears on Thursday and the Redskins face the Steelers at Monday night.
Comcast shows the Ravens hosting the Falcons Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Fox brings two contests, with Tampa Bay at New England Friday at 8 p.m. and the Colts facing the Giants Sunday at 7 p.m.
The Arena Football season ends Saturday with Philadelphia facing Arizona on CBS at 1 p.m.
The Nationals host San Francisco Thursday at 4 p.m. on MASN, then travel to division-leading Atlanta for the weekend. The Orioles finish a two-week stretch against the NL West, facing Colorado on MASN2.
It’s another weekend of Yankees-Red Sox – Saturday afternoon on Fox and Sunday night on ESPN. Fox also features Diamondbacks-Pirates and Cardinals taking on the Cubs. TBS shows the Dodgers in Philadelphia Sunday afternoon.

Major excitement

Time for the final major championship of 2013.
Will Tiger Woods win his 15th major this weekend?
The PGA championship tees off Thursday at 1 p.m. on TNT.  There’s more action Friday at 1 p.m., and the third round begins on TNT at 11 a.m. Saturday before CBS takes over at 2 p.m.  Sunday’s final round starts on TNT at 11 a.m., and moves to CBS from 2 p.m. until the trophy presentation.
Woods’ 61 in the second round at the World Golf championship last Friday heightened expectations as the best golfers gather at Oak Hill. Jack Nicklaus’ 18 career majors stands just beyond the horizon, but a Woods win to close out the 2013 season revs up the chase.
The NFL preseason kicks into high gear Thursday when the Bengals face the Falcons on ESPN Thursday at 8 p.m. Comcast has the Redskins’ opener against the Titans Thursday at 8 p.m.
The Orioles continue their west coast swing in San Francisco, with games on MASN2 Friday and Sunday. Saturday’s game is on Fox, along with Rays-Dodgers and Twins against White Sox.

As major league baseball teams continue their quest for the postseason, the young stars meet in Williamsport.
The 66th Little League World Series starts Thursday at 1 p.m. on ESPN with Curacao vs. Japan. California takes on Connecticut at 3 p.m. and Tennessee plays Nebraska at 8 p.m. ESPN2 has the International contest between Taiwan and Germany at 5 p.m.
Friday, Canada meets Mexico at 1 p.m. on ESPN. New Jersey plays Texas at 3 p.m. and Oregon battles Indiana at 8 p.m., while ESPN2 it’s Uganda against Panama at 5 p.m. Thursday’s losers try to stay alive Saturday on ABC at 3 p.m. and on ESPN at noon, 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., while Sunday’s action is on ESPN at 5 p.m., ESPN2 at noon and 7 p.m. and ABC at 2 p.m.
Elsewhere in youth sports, the Junior League baseball championship will be Saturday at 11 a.m. on ESPN2, while Junior League softball goes at 5 p.m.
The NL-East leading Nationals host the Mets on MASN this weekend, while the Orioles face the Red Sox Thursday on MASN before heading to Detroit on MASN2 for the weekend.
It’s Red Sox-Yankees time again – from Yankee Stadium this weekend. Fox has Saturday afternoon’s game – along with Cardinals-Pirates – and ESPN shows the Sunday night game at 4 p.m. The Dodgers take on the Braves Sunday at 1:35 p.m. on TBS.

Only a few more days of gold medals, then the Olympic flame will go out.
NBC closes out the 2012 London Summer Olympics this weekend. Highlights include the United States men’s basketball semifinal Friday at 3:30 p.m. against Argentina. The winner advances to the gold medal game Sunday at 10 a.m. on NBC
NBC Sports network begins action Thursday at 8 a.m. with women’s soccer, and starts Friday at 8 a.m. The men’s marathon will be live on NBC beginning Sunday at 6 a.m.
Primetime Sunday will feature the closing ceremonies, and sending the Olympic flag to Rio for the next games in 2016.
Golf holds its final major of the year starting Thursday, with the PGA Championship from Kiawah Island in South Carolina. TNT has coverage Thursday and Friday at 1 p.m., and CBS takes over Saturday and Sunday – starting at 2 p.m. each day. TNT has three hours of early play Saturday and Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.
The Redskins start their preseason schedule at Buffalo Thursday at 7 p.m. on Comcast and CW29 in Charlottesville. The Packers face the Chargers on ESPN Thursday at 8 p.m.
The Orioles host Kansas City for a four-game series, starting Thursday on MASN. The Nationals face Houston on MASN2 Thursday at 8 p.m., then head to Arizona for a three-game set starting Friday.
